As we get the forum launched to a new & wider set of people, itās a good time to do introductions. Tell us a bit about yourself, whatever youāre comfortable with is fine - background, interests, repair skills, or anything really! Letās make this forum work
My name is Greg, and Iām the main admin for the forum. Iāve been working with computers, and with open source for more than 20 years - as a sysadmin, a developer, a data scientist, and a community architect.
In the repair world, I volunteer with Remake at the monthly Repair Hubs we run in Crieff, where Iāll (obviously) tackle tech repair, but also most electricals I will take a look at. Iāve got my PAT Testing badge too
As the site admin, feel free to hit me up with questions or comments - you can either PM me or start a topic in the Site Feedback section. Ask away!
Hello! I am Amanda and I am currently the Assistant in Charge at the Carnegie Library in Ayr where myself and Eileen are using our Green Libraries funding to do a program called āOne Small Thingā focusing on one small thing anyone can do to tackle environmental issues. This includes having a sustainability hub where people can donate, use or take for free lots of repair and crafting items such as buttons, fabric, wool, sewing machines, glue guns etc and also host a monthly repair cafe with Irvine Share and Repair.
Hello All! Delighted to be here, many thanks to Greg for all of the work that has gone into the development of this forum!
My name is Jennifer and I work with the Fife Climate Hub. I am working to create a network among all of the Circular Economy projects in Fife, the most significant of which are its Repair Cafes! If you know of a group who is curious about starting a Repair Cafe in Fife (or Tool Library, donation programme, etc.) please connect me with them!
I am also, in my own time, developing a new Repair Cafe in Glasgow. This project is in its infancy but has just received funding, so I will be keeping my eyes out for resources and lessons that new repair cafes can utilize!
Iāve just realised that although I mentioned creating events for the calendar in my invite mails, I havenāt actually posted a HowTo for that yet. Look out for that in Site Feedback area over the weekend
Iām Marie-Claire, I am the Community Engagement Coordinator at Remake Scotland here in Crieff. Remake is a reuse charity and we have a reuse hub where we sell donated furniture, textiles, crafts, DIY, vintage and curios.
As part of my role I coordinate the Repair Hub in Crieff which runs once a month.
its great to be meeting you all via the new forum and thanks to Greg for all his working putting it together.
Iām Alan. I volunteer for Linlithgow Repair Shop and Linlithgow Tool Library. Our wee shop started from repairing Tool Library stock and running Repair Cafe events, but quickly moved on to a fixed shop repair service based in our community hub. Having a community shed operating in the same building at the same time give us access to folks with woodwork skills, woodwork/metalwork workshop tools, benches and lots of people to help.
In the past, I was project officer for Transition Linlithgow working on local environmental projects (now merged with our local community trust ) and also CCF funding officer for Keep Scotland Beautiful so I remember well some great community projects that are still powering on with climate action.
OK, a how-to for posting events is now available so go post your repair cafes! You all have rights to create events in your repair group categories (e.g. Repair Groups > Linlithgow Repair Shop)
@JaneOwens I hope you donāt mind, I used tomorrowās Gathering as the example event in the howto. I felt it should be on the calendar, even with such short notice
Hi everyone, Iām Kim, another Repair Hub volunteer in Crieff, also have my PAT testing badge, also a volunteer at the Remake Tool Library.
My Repair credentials are that I worked in the Telecommunications industry for over 40 years. When I started we used to fix things instead of just changing them out. Also I happily handle woodworking fixes. My father was a Carpenter and Joiner and my youth was spent looking over his shoulder. I also inheritted most of his tools.
