Works well! Look forward to seeing people there tomorrow - it should be a good opportunity to get more sign ups to the forum.
By way of a trip report, let me put some notes here ![]()
Firstly, I had a great time - huge thanks to @JaneOwens for the invite to speak about the forum. The 5min slot was fine, I saw lots of nodding in the audience about what we’re trying to do, and some kind words in person afterwards.
The lunchtime booth was quiet, I did a couple of signups and had some long discussions about the nature of community building. I also spoke with @CCSMatt about some next steps we might be able to take with the News & Updates category.
I met several folks who’ve already had invites, and encouraged them to go dig up their emails and get involved. Sadly, several of the key people I hoped to speak with about this were not present, but you can’t win them all.
With my other hat (open source usage in the repair sector) I was very impressed with the appetite for change at the moment. In the “tech reuse” workshop from Reboot Stirling, in a room of perhaps 15-20, I was the 4th person to bring up Linux as an alternative to Windows when rescuing old laptops. I was pleasantly surprised, to say the least, and good discussions followed on that, LibreOffice, and more.
I also had a chance to speak with Plugged In from Glasgow, who are running a scheme very similar to what I’d like to do here in Crieff - rescuing old laptops, putting Linux on them, and giving them out to people in need. That was a very good chat, but as I think they might well be signed up here shortly, I’ll save that for another topic.
Overall a great day, I’ve come away with lots to think about and lots to follow up on. Huge thanks to CCS for setting it all up!
5 posts were split to a new topic: Email clients & experiences
Now that i’m recovered and processing my todos… thess are some links:
Both of these are people I’m following up with ![]()
