Vintage Reel to Reel Repair Update

Hello, thought you would be interested to hear Ewan’s update on the Reel to Reel……

I have some disappointing news with regards to the Reel To Reel player as well as the Bose radio.

Starting with the reel to reel player, I had a chance to have a look over it and got it all powered up. However instead of the very quiet audio we were getting, we now get no sound at all.

Upon further investigation, there is some severe trace damage to the main amplifier board in it. Traces are starting to bubble and lift off breaking contact with components.

So if we start replacing components we would risk causing more damage to the board. And trying to fix board level damage can be tricky and time consuming.

So from what I have seen I deem it to be beyond feasible repair.

Any photos? Can you run wires past the damaged tracks? We have plenty of insulated copper wire if you need some. We are currently having to repair broken tracks on guitar amplifier boards. But only on the low voltage side. We will generally avoid such repairs to the high voltage areas of PCBs or PSU’s.

What’s wrong with the Bose radio? You didn’t say if it was same fault or different.
