Along with the Sugden Amp, I have a pioneer pl112d turntable to service and match up.
Mechanicals serviced and fresh oil. New belt. Turntable working ok but there was a hum. Narrowed that down to a bad earth which when fixed removed the hum.
However the original cartridge was damaged and customer provided a £2.50 for 2x universal cartridge as a replacement and he fitted it with Velcro!. It’s totally the wrong part and I’m getting lots of bad crackles and poor sound coming through. Now it might be the preamp part of the amplifier as I’ve only tested the tape inputs so far. But I’m more inclined to say it’s the cheap cartridge or setup with insufficient weight.
So would an Audio Technica AT3600L be the best cartridge to buy?
This is all new to me. Different diamond shapes, coil types, etc.
