Kenwood Chef’s

We’ve had several old Kenwood Chefs in for repair and yesterday we received another KM200. Common fault is a smell from blown x2 capacitors.

It’s one repair where the debate is. Do you just repair the minimum or do you go for a full service.

Common other faults of machines this age are.

  • worn feet which limit airflow to the motor.
  • Worn motor brushes
  • Grease needing replaced in the gearbox
  • Food safe grease needing added to planetary gears.

Blown x2 capacitors. Time for the repair kit which includes other components. Very common repair for this food mixer. Essential you measure the height of the pcb at the bolt ends before removing.

Repair kit came with. 2 x2 capacitors which were not marked with their value. Thankfully we have a capacitance meter to verify them and to ensure their ESR rating was ok and capacitance within tolerance.

Electrical aspects done. Moving onto servicing the gearbox, new grease, reseal and food safe grease to planetary gear below. Will also check belt for wear.
