Seen several of these now. Dyson hairdryer with motor in the handle and air inlet at cable entry point on handle. Symptom - runs for a few seconds then stops due to overheat. Owner likely to not be cleaning filters often enough or well enough.
The filters are blocked due to skin cells, hand cream, dust or similar gunk and they need fully cleaned in an ultrasonic bath to get the, back clean again to remove the fault.
Who designed something like this? Clearly they never tested it before going to production volumes… customers don’t have tiny Torq screwdrivers to remove mesh filters or fancy cleaning machines to soak external filters in.
Here’s a before and after photo to show what a small amount of dust does. This is enough to stop it working.
