Broken cursor key on laptop keyboard

So the HP Elite book we were given is a lovely little thing - but the Left arrow key doesn’t work.

I’m going to take a look at it in the next repair cafe (don’t forget to sign up here :stuck_out_tongue:) but I wanted to ask if there was any prep to do beforehand? @martyn how would you tackle it?

To be honest, I’d typically look on eBay for a second hand keyboard.

Fair enough. Something like this?

Seems like a reasonable price for a fix… I can order that in time for next week

I’d pop the existing keyboard and compare the underside, check for model numbers etc.

Fair enough. Done, and ordered a matching one, should be here before Sat.

So it turns out that these keyboards seem remarkably hard to get - eventually I went with a vendor that sells re-stickered ones. Looking at the names of the function keys, I think the original may have been Spanish

Anyway, it arrived this week, I’ve fitted it, and it seems to work :tada:

Only now the battery doesn’t seem to charge… le sigh. Reseated it several times but no joy. The Linux kernel can see it, but ACPI says “not charging”.

Oh well, progress
